Congratulations on your very well-deserved appointment to The New Zealand Order of Merit for your services to Haematology!

Dr Ken Romeril is a consultant physician/haematologist.

Dr Ken Romeril (Ken) founded the charitable trust Myeloma New Zealand, of which he has been CEO since 2016, continuing in this role following retirement from clinical practice.

He is the only New Zealand member of the International Myeloma Working Group.

Ken was an early leader in the care and treatment of AIDS patients in New Zealand and has been a committee member of the Medical Advisory Subcommittee on AIDS.

Ken established the Wellington HIV Medicine Unit, and he introduced HIV viral load tests.

He has been an examiner in Haematology for the Royal College of Pathologists of Australia (RCPA).

The Community Laboratory was fortunate to have Ken’s skills as a consultant haematologist from 1989 to 2016.

He has been a principal investigator for many drug trials, including the first for chronic lymphatic leukaemia.

Ken established the ground-breaking auto transplantation initiative in 1995.

The three International Myeloma Summit Meetings in 2016, 2018 and 2020 were convened by Ken.

Ken has been a Senior Lecturer at the Wellington Campus of Otago University Medical School.
